For sole traders & the self-employed

You run the business. We'll handle the tax.

Fixed-fee accounting for tradespeople, personal trainers, freelancers and everyone else working for themselves. Self Assessment, bookkeeping and honest answers — from £85/month, with nothing extra to pay unless we've agreed it first.

Sound familiar?

The work itself is fine — it's everything around it. A shoebox (or a phone full of photos) of receipts. A January deadline that arrives faster every year. That nagging feeling you're either claiming things you shouldn't or missing things you could. And nobody to ask without worrying about what it'll cost.

Here's how it works with us: your bookkeeping stays up to date through the year, not in a January panic. Your return is prepared and filed on time. Your deadlines are flagged well ahead. And when you wonder "can I claim this?" — you just ask. It's included.

Little and often

"Is this allowable?"

Half the questions we get start with those three words. Work clothing, the van, your phone bill, lunch on a job, training courses — the rules are more sensible than people fear, but not quite as generous as word of mouth sometimes suggests. Our guides give plain verdicts on the everyday ones.

Common questions

I don’t earn enough to need an accountant… do I?

It’s the most common myth we hear. An accountant isn’t a luxury for big businesses — for most sole traders the fee is itself an allowable expense, and the value is in expenses you didn’t know you could claim, penalties you never get, and evenings you don’t spend fighting a tax return. Whether it stacks up for you depends on your situation, and we’re happy to be honest about it either way.

What’s included in the monthly fee?

Your Self Assessment tax return prepared and filed, your bookkeeping kept up to date through the year, an entry-level Xero subscription, reminders well ahead of every deadline, and advice whenever you have a question. One fixed fee, no hourly billing, no surprise invoices.

I’m behind on my tax returns. Can you help?

Yes, and you won’t get a lecture. Catching up on past years is quoted separately so your monthly fee stays predictable — we look at what’s outstanding, agree a fixed price for the catch-up before any work starts, and get you back on track.

What are Payments on Account?

They’re advance payments towards next year’s tax bill that HMRC asks many self-employed people to make — one at the end of January, one at the end of July. They catch a lot of people out in their second year, because the first bill can be half as big again as expected. We explain yours before it arrives, in plain English, so it’s never a surprise.

Should I become a limited company?

Sometimes it saves tax; sometimes it just adds admin. It depends on your profit, your plans and how you like to work — there’s no one-size answer, and anyone who gives you one without asking questions is guessing. It’s a conversation we’re glad to have when you’re ready, with no agenda either way.

Not sure if an accountant stacks up for you?

Ask us. If your situation is simple enough to do yourself, we'll tell you that — it costs nothing to check.
